What Is A Blog?
A blog is a kind of website where the content is shown in reverse chronological order (new content appears first). Blog content is frequently referred to as “blog posts”.
The difference between a blog and a website is that blogs are updated regularly with new content, which is shown in reverse chronological order (new blog posts first).
Websites are static naturally, content is categorized in pages, and they’re not updated often as a blog does. While a blog is dynamic, it is updated frequently. Some bloggers update their blogs regularly with many new contents every day.
What Is A Blogging?
Blogging is when you publish content on your blog be it articles, photos, video, and more.
You may be a blogger and it’s perhaps you don’t blog. You can have a blog as a blogger and hire someone to do the blogging for you by publishing content for you on daily basis.
Do you want to know how to blog by yourself? Then keep on reading.
Can You Make Money Blogging?
This is the first question you ask as a beginner, making money blogging is possible.
You can make money with blogging if you follow the guidelines in this article. While making money with blogging can be difficult some years back, it’s easy to make money with blogging nowadays.
I’m not saying you will make money in the first month you start blogging, blogging is not a get-rich-quick-scheme so don’t think of making money with blogging in the first month.
Does that mean you can’t make money with blogging in the first month of starting?
You can make money in the first month if you’re a pro, you can create a blog today and start promoting a product, you can make sales within the same month you start if you have another channel to drive traffic.
If you have a Telegram channel or group, Twitter handle, Instagram page, Facebook page, or group with large members that are willing to buy from you.
You can start a blog, promote your product or sign up as an affiliate and promote the product to them. You can make sales with this method in the first month if you have a large number of members elsewhere.
But if SEO traffic is what you depend on, it can take months before you start generating a reasonable amount from your blog.
It may take up to a year or two before earning from your blog.
How To Start A Blog?
This is where this will get interesting and it’s your first step towards becoming a blogger.
If you want to start a blog like some years back, it requires knowing HTML, CSS, and others.
Then WordPress was created to make things easy for you, anyone can create a blog now without the knowledge of HTML or other programming languages.
WordPress is the most popular CMS powering over 40% of blogs in the world.
What is WordPress?
WordPress is a content management system that can be used to create a blog, website, e-commerce, forum, and even social media.
Since WordPress is the most popular CMS, it makes it the easiest to use CMS because there are a lot of free and paid themes and plugins to choose from.
You can design your WordPress the way you like. WordPress is easy to install and manage.
Some hosting company has WordPress hosting plan, WordPress will be auto-install for you with the plan. And with thousands of videos on YouTube about WordPress, believe me, you can get help easily when you need it because it’s the most used CMS.
So let’s talk about how to start a WordPress.org blog because it’s the best in the world.
Make Plans on the Niche You Want to Blog About
Don’t start a blog without planning, do your findings if the niche you want to blog on is good and can you cope in the long run.
While many experts will tell you to blog for passion, it’s a good thing to blog for passion if you’re a complete beginner because passion keeps you going even when you don’t make money from it yet.
But that doesn’t mean you should not make findings, there are niches to blog about that are profitable and some of those niches don’t require thousands of visitors before you make a reasonable amount of money. We’ll talk about making money with blogging later.
Some High Profitable Niches you can start a blog on:
Do your research before you start any of the niches above and ask yourself if you can write for the niche, if yes, go on and start the blog.
If not, then you can create the blog and hire someone to write for you or you can go on with another niche you can write for.
Register the Domain Name
A domain name is the address of your blog or website, an example is Loud99.com. The domain name is what visitors type in the address bar of their browser and it redirects them to your blog.
If you don’t know how to come up with a good domain name or where to register your dream domain, then read this helpful article that guides you on how to choose a perfect domain name for your website, blog, and business.
Choose A Reliable Hosting Provider
While WordPress is free, you need to host it somewhere else. Since WordPress.org is a self-hosted CMS, you don’t pay for WordPress but you have to host the CMS.
There are hundreds of hosting providers out there to choose from but not all of them are reliable.
If you are just starting, and you want to start a simple blog under $40 or so, I’ll recommend Namecheap for you. Namecheap basic shared hosting will be perfect for you and you can get a domain name from them as well for as low as $9 for the first year.
You can pay for Namecheap hosting monthly to reduce the hosting bill on you and you get to pay up to $2 – $3 monthly.
Bluehost was recommended by WordPress, since Bluehost doesn’t offer monthly payment for their shared and WordPress hosting plan, you can go with Bluehost if you can pay for the annual plan.
Additionally, Namecheap WordPress managed hosting called EasyWP will host your blog for a whole month before you start paying.
Like I said earlier, some hosting providers help you install WordPress automatically if you go for their WordPress hosting plan.
And if you want to install it by yourself, then follow this method:
Log into your hosting Cpanel (You’ll receive a mail from your hosting provider about your Cpanel details after you successfully pay for the hosting plan)
Tap on WordPress under the Softaculous application
Then you can input your website details like the name of your blog, your username, and password, your email for admin, and then tap on install.
Then you should get a URL that leads to your blog and another URL to login as an admin.
If you encounter any issues, contact your hosting provider support and they should be able to help.
You can also get their help to install WordPress for you instead of you doing it yourself.
Change the Default Permalink
Yeah, I do this first after the blog is live change the permalink to be SEO friendly.
What is Permalink?
In a nutshell, it’s the way your blog post links are structured. For example, see these URLs below:
Which one is more suitable?
I believe it’s the second one it’s good for people to understand what your blog post is all about even without reading your blog, and it’s SEO friendly because it contains keywords.
Do this to change the permalink of your new blog:
Under the Settings
Click on the permalink and change it to “post name” and then save.
The title of your blog post will be the same as the link, but you can make adjustments to make it more SEO friendly rather than being a long URL like your blog post title could be.
Create Important Pages
If you take blogging or your online business seriously, then you need to create a page that explains what you do and who you are.
Install a Theme
WordPress is good for the fact that there are many free and paid themes and plugins you can choose from. Click on Theme under “Appearance” in the menu in the admin dashboard.
You can add a new theme and delete the default theme.
Some SEO friendly themes you can are:
All the themes I mentioned above have the free version, you can start with the free version and upgrade later.
Don’t install a nulled WordPress theme, make sure you install the theme from your WordPress dashboard. If you are paying for a theme, ensure that it’s the official designer of the theme you’re buying from.
Install Important Plugins
There are many plugins you can choose as a WordPress user, there are some plugins that make things easy for you, some of them are:
- Rank Math (SEO plugin)
- Elementor (For designing your website anyhow you like it)

Yeah, it’s time to publish your first blog post to the world. Publish your first blog post, and if you don’t know what to write I’ll discuss that later in this article.

Do Keyword Research: This is good to discover keywords in your niche you can write on. For example, in this article “How to Start a Blog and Make Money”, the keyword is the first before we develop the article.
Outline the points: Write out all the important subheadings for the article after you discover the title to write on. You can write this in a paper, then start writing you can even get more ideas as you write.
Introduction first: Before you begin to write about the main post body, you can introduce your article or start with a question. If you check the first paragraph of this article, I introduced this article to you by telling you what you will learn.
Write like you’re talking: Don’t write like a robot, write like you’re talking to someone.
A short paragraph is crucial: A short paragraph makes your long article readable. Let your paragraph be short so you don’t scare readers. Your blog visitors will lose interest if you use long paragraphs.
Make the ending natural: At the end of your article, you can tell your readers to share, comment, or something like that. You can also re-outline the best points in the article in a nutshell.

How To Make Money With A Blog
There are different ways you can make money from your blog but some of them are:
1. Show Ads on Your Blog
This is the primary source of income for most bloggers and that is why Adsense is very popular. You sign up with an advertising network, they approve your blog, they start by showing ads on your blog and you make your money.
But this method will make you more money as your traffic grows.
You can also sign up for up to 3 ads networks and display all their ads on your website.
I’ll recommend you minimize the number of ads you use on your blog, too many ads can send your visitors away.
2. Affiliate Marketing
This is probably the best way to make a reasonable amount of money from your blog.
Affiliate Marketing is promoting other people’s products and earning a commission. Some companies pay as high as 50% commission.
You can make research about products you can promote in your niche and you can write reviews about the product on you mention them in a random blog post and you get your commission when you make sales.
3. Sell Digital Products
You can make money by selling your products to your blog readers. You can sell your ebook to your blog visitors.
While affiliate marketing takes away the stress of creating your product by promoting other people’s products and earning a commission. Selling your products too is a good thing and you can even do both by selling your products and promoting other people’s products.
Some other ways you can make money with blogging are:
- Host online courses
- Sponsored post
