How to Rank Your Blog: 9 Effective Ways to Rank

If you create content for your website, then it’s normal to wonder – How do you rank your blog?

In this article, I’ll explain how to rank a new and old blog as a content writer and effective ways to rank all your blog contents.

I’m someone who likes to make research about blogs and I have studied SEO for more than 2 years.

Do you know what I have discovered after all my research?

A new blog can rank on Google too, some SEO beginners thought only aged domain names with a lot of backlinks rank on Google.

That’s a lie, a new blog without a link can rank too with these effective ways you’re about to discover.

When I say ranking on Google, I mean that you can rank your blog on Google’s first page even with your new and existing blog.

10 Effective Ways on How to Rank Your Blog

This key SEO list for ranking a blog can be used to rank a new and old blog.

1. A niche blogging is the Best to rank

If you want to rank your blog? Consider choosing to blog in a particular niche than a multi-niche blog.

Google bot is brilliant and it studies your new or old blog to understand what you’re blogging about.

If you have a multi-niche blog that blogs on Music, Health, Tech, and Fashion, then it’s probably that you’re confusing the Google bot and your ranking could suffer.

With my extensive research on ranking a new blog, Google likes to rank your blog if it’s focusing on a niche.

For example, GSMArena is a popular blog that focused on Phone reviews and news. GSMArena doesn’t blog about everything on technology despite that it’s a tech blog, but it focused on Phone reviews and news. Google ranks GSMArena more on the SERP than some competitors that blogged on all things on technology.

If you want to start a new blog, choose blogging in a particular niche than multi-niche.

Does that mean a multi-niche blog can’t rank?

No, a multi-niche blog can rank too but its ranking could suffer when you start without authority.

If you want to have a multi-niche blog, you can start the blog in a particular niche and expand later.

Quora started as a digital marketing tool to answers business and enterprises questions. But now Quora has expanded from being just a business question and answer site to technology, entertainment, gaming, fashion, and more. You can ask any questions from tech to fashion on Quora now because Quora is an authority site now.

If you want to start a tech blog, don’t blog on everything about technology, start with tech sub-niche.

Technology is a broad niche with a lot of sub-niche and these sub-niches are easy to rank and even make sales promoting your affiliate links with the sub-niche.

Some niches under tech niche you can blog and rank your blog easily on: Phone reviews, Laptop reviews, How-to, Laptop Software reviews, web hosting reviews, and more.

2. Do keyword research before writing

If you want to rank your articles each time to hit the publish button, doing keyword research before writing will save you from writing without ranking.

I rank my new blog with keyword research, this is what I do. After creating a new niche blog, I’ll make research to discover easy to rank keywords on Google in the focused niche for the new blog and I’ll develop high-quality content to rank.

Do you know that the keyword above gave the new blogs more than 200+ clicks on SERP in its first month of inception?

Target Long-tail Keywords

Instead of trying to rank for short-tail keywords like “iPhone 13 reviews” try to target the long-tail Keywords, a new blog can’t rank for iPhone 13 reviews because authority blogs are ranking for the same keyword already.

Don’t compete with them if you don’t have a lot of backlinks from authority sites with high domain authority.

A new blog can’t possibly outrank an authority blog with high domain authority, page authority, quality backlinks, and more trustworthiness.

With a new blog, Google doesn’t know who you are or what your blog is all about, it’s much better to rank for long-tail keywords and gain Google trust before you try to rank for short-tail keywords.

The longer the keywords, the easier to rank for. You can rank your blog with long-tail keywords easily without building backlinks.

3. High-quality content is likely to rank with keywords in mind

If writing to rank is what you do, then publishing high-quality content or article is more likely to rank than low-quality content.

To rank your blog on Google, you need to let Google knows that you are up to the task. Google likes it when you write articles with more words than fewer words.

According to research, articles with 1000 words upward rank more than articles with 500 or less.

Google believes that an article with more than 1000 words is more informational and it has more knowledge on the field it’s writing on.

When you discover a long-tail keyword, develop an article that has more words than others ranking for it and make sure to target the keyword well in your article.

4. Increase your blog loading speed

Some years back, Google introduced the ‘Accelerated Mobile Page’, which improves your blog loading speed and helps to rank more.

Google likes it when your blog pages load within two to three seconds. Research says 40% of people that visit your blog won’t wait for the 3 seconds before abandoning your blog.

A good page loading speed will rank your blog more on Google and that’s why some people use the AMP plugin in WordPress to increase page loading speed.

I don’t use the AMP plugin on my blogs, I would recommend using AMP plugin if you are starting a new blog but for an existing blog, please don’t do. You’re wondering why? We’ll talk about that in the next article.

5. Optimize your blog post image for ranking

Google likes it when your blog post image has the same keyword as the blog post.

Google looks for images with alt text and it can help your article rank for the keyword.

A plugin like Rank Math can auto-insert the alt text for you in the image in the blog post.

Once you enable the feature in Rank Math, the plugin edit and input the same focus keyword in the blog post inside the image.

6. Optimize your blog post URL

Like I said earlier, the Google bot is brilliant and it analyzes your content if it is worths ranking. Optimizing your blog post URL helps in ranking a blog post.

A short and keyword-rich URL can help rank your blog on Google.

A great example is this blog post you’re reading, instead of using all the titles of the blog post in the URL, we use the focus keyword “rank-your-blog”.

This is one of the best SEO practices, it doesn’t help the Google bot only, it helps people to understand your blog when you share on social media. And since the link is short, it doesn’t look like a spam link.

7. Build Links

A backlink is one of the best ways to rank a blog but there’s more to know about backlinks. In our other article, I’ll talk more about building backlinks, how to go about it and how it helps.

For now, let’s see how it helps. When your blog got a backlink from authority sites, then your ranking will increase because Google believes that your blog can be trusted since you got backlinks from high authority sites.

Adam Enfroy an SEO expert got a link from Techradar. He tweeted about it and thanked the team for linking back to his blog. Do you know what that means?

The more you get backlinks from authority sites, the more you rank on Google for short-tail keywords.

8. Share your blog post on social media

When you share a blog post on social media, this sends a signal to search engines and it increases your trust for ranking. Remember that Google ranks blogs that are not spamming.

Sharing your blog post on social media is effective and it helps to signal search engines that your content is worth sharing and you should gain search engine’s trust consistently.

9. Update your old articles

You should always update or optimize your old blog articles for ranking. If you don’t rank for a keyword, then you can add more words, make more research, build links to the blog post, and perhaps you can rank again.

Remember that the Google algorithm is getting updates every year, then you should update your old blog articles to meet the new policy if ranking your blog is what you want.

Conclusion

You can rank a new blog without backlinks if you use the long-tail keywords method, don’t create a new blog, and start building backlinks. Backlinks are good and they can reduce your blog ranking if you focus more on backlinks than providing the content.

Remember the saying that content is king, write like a pro and develop high-quality content that is worth reading and sharing.

I hope to see your blog on the SERP.
